AST blood test

An AST blood test, also known as an SGOT blood test, is a laboratory test that measures the levels of the enzyme AST, or aspartate transaminase, in the blood. AST is found in many body tissues, but it is primarily found in the liver. The test is often used to help diagnose and monitor liver damage or disease, such as hepatitis and cirrhosis. The results of the test are reported as the AST level in the blood, and elevated levels can be a sign of liver damage. However, it is important to note that other conditions, such as muscle injury and certain medications, can also cause elevated AST levels.
