Gastrin blood test

A gastrin blood test is a test used to measure the level of the hormone gastrin in a person's blood. Gastrin is a hormone produced by the stomach that plays a role in the production of stomach acid. The test is used to diagnose and monitor conditions that affect the production of gastrin, such as stomach ulcers, gastritis, and tumors of the pancreas or stomach. It is also used to monitor the effectiveness of medications that reduce stomach acid production, such as proton pump inhibitors. The test is typically performed on a small sample of blood taken from a vein in the arm.
